Why our electricity makes the difference
Our energy is generated where it is consumed. Our wind turbines are mainly located in southern Germany. Our hydropower plants and photovoltaic systems (PV) for generating green electricity are practically on our doorstep. Even closer, on the roof of our Stadtwerke Tübingen company building, we generate solar energy with a photovoltaic system. We also offer owners of old PV systems that are no longer eligible for the 20-year EEG subsidy an attractive offer for continued operation (post-EEG).

Questions about green electricity – TüStrom Natur
TüStrom Natur is green electricity that is generated 100% from renewable energies. It therefore does not require any nuclear energy or electricity from fossil fuels such as coal, oil or natural gas.
TüStrom Natur comes from 100% renewable energy from German green electricity generation plants, including wind turbines in Burladingen, Dornstetten, Geislingen a.d. Steige, Gütenbach, Hüfingen, Schopfheim, Schonach, Wiesensteig and Zimmern ob Rottweil, as well as solar parks in Tübingen, Denkingen, Rheinfelden-Herten and Rothenburg.
TÜV NORD has been testing our TüStrom Natur for several years and also certifies the product. So you can be sure that the quality of our green electricity is also certified by external experts. What is behind the seal of approval? In addition to climate-friendly electricity production, we guarantee with the certificate that the additional income goes towards the promotion of renewable energies and climate protection projects in the region.

We reinvest 100% of the additional revenue from the TüStrom Natur tariffs in the expansion of climate protection projects. After deducting VAT of 0.19 cents/kWh and costs for the guarantee of origin for green electricity currently amounting to 0.4 cents/kWh, we make 0.6 cents/kWh available for the promotion of climate protection projects (as at 2024).
We have already been able to implement several projects with the additional revenue from our green electricity TüStrom Natur: In Tübingen's neighboring town of Horb am Neckar, for example, a modern run-of-river power plant has been feeding around 2.4 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity into the grid for around 600 four-person households every year since 2011. And in Neunkirchen in the Bavarian Odenwald, a wind farm with a total output of 4.8 megawatts has been generating around 12 million kilowatt hours of wind power per year for around 3,000 families since 2013, thanks in part to our TüStrom Natur customers. In addition

Did you know that Stadtwerke Tübingen generates more than 200 million kilowatt hours of green electricity every year in its own plants?
By 2024, the aim is to generate as much as 300 million kilowatt hours of green electricity from sun, water and wind. This corresponds to around three quarters of the entire electricity requirements of the university city of Tübingen.
Why electricity from Stadtwerke Tübingen?
Stadtwerke Tübingen provides reliable public service with a high-quality infrastructure. In addition, it makes available about EUR 13 million annually for public tasks from taxes and duties of the University City of Tübingen. It compensates for the structural losses of Tübingen’s city buses and public pools every year, maintaining an attractive range of services for all people in the university city.

Stadtwerke Tübingen invests in renewable energy and energy efficiency: with wind power plants on the Eastern Alb and the Hunsrück, hydropower at the doorstep on the Neckar and solar power from its own roof.
